Addleshaw Goddard's Hall of Shame

It is worth noting that each of the lawyers listed below were employed by Addleshaw Goddard following their Letter before Claim in February 2023. They were a lot younger, better paid, better qualified and enjoy far superior mental capacity than their opponent an 85 year old Litigant in Person representing the Defendant and yet it's unforgivable that not one of them noticed Addleshaw Goddard was in abuse of process, behaved criminally including tampering with evidence, conspiracy to defraud, forgery and contempt of court.

Addleshaw Goddard high stress, little reward

Pros - Good name to have on your CV for legal experience, exposure to technical work as you have a fair bit of responsibility from the start
Cons - Extremely high pressure and little training making the job very stressful, unrealistic targets, hierarchical culture, little reward or recognition for your work, very underpaid paralegals with absolutely no guarantee or encouragement of progression.

Disappointing experience in FS practice.

Pros - Not particularly long hours and not a bad subsidised canteen
Cons - The practice has no clear strategy. No transparency. Complete lack of any pre-existing knowhow and templates. Weak client following - completely dependent on internal referrals. Complete lack of social events and interaction outside the office.

Addleshaw Goddard England Centric

Pros - Many of the team are great lawyers but
Cons - The whole firm seems to be run by the accountants in England and the Scottish part of the partnership seemed to have no authority.

Addleshaw Goddard good Name, bad experience.

Pros - Having AG on your CV can open up a lot of doors in the industry. The Qualified Solicitors / Legal execs within the business are very knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions
Cons - As a paralegal, your line manager is unqualified and rarely has a detailed enough knowledge of the work you undertake to provide you with relevant guidance. Paralegals are often used as mass admin for projects rather than given opportunities to gain knowledge.

Unhappy Paralegal at Addleshaw Goddard

Pros - Good work, great resources and some good perks (parties, subsidies etc)
Cons - Promotions process is not done fairly and you can face resistance from TST leadership team if you try to expand your experience/do what is best for you.

Addleshaw Goddard lack of appreciation.

Pros - Good location but other than that, nothing
Cons - Lack of appreciation from the colleagues we completed work for and the Firm itself. No where to progress as other roles that you could progress into don't become available for years. Certain departments are rude. Made to feel excluded from everyone else and made to feel below everyone else.

Addleshaw Goddard deeply unpleasant place to work.

Pros - Some genuinely interesting work if you're in the right place at the right time. Generally a nice bunch of co-workers
Cons - 1) 18k is the starting salary and is the salary you will likely stay on regardless of performance or billable hours. 2) senior paralegals typically earn around 22K and there is no clear progression route to get there. 3) Bonuses - don't be silly. you'd be lucky to get a few 100 whilst your friends in other industries are getting 10% bonuses and pay rises.

Addleshaw Goddard middle of the road.

Pros - Some genuinely lovely people (including senior partner - CP)
Cons - Lazy and incompetent PAs who hold on to their jobs by flirting with the partners, convoluted support processes, misogynistic partners (particularly those in the middle and lower ranks), lack of firm identity.

Treat your staff with respect.

Pros - Flexible working Salaries are on par Opportunities are available
Cons - Very Risk adverse. Segregation between Legal Tech and IT - they need to work together not apart. The firms needs to allow IT devise a technical strategy that underpins the capabilities of the firm, not Partners controlling.

Would not recommend Addleshaw Goddard!

Pros - Good environment, Excellent offices, Good benefits (Healthcare, Gym, Pension)
Cons - Bullying is rife within the IT department with a finger pointing mentality. Minimal collaboration across teams with a focus on single "heroes" to deliver tasks or fix issues who are then continually publicly lauded.
